Over the course of the academic year, Seadhan will cover all aspects of the Higher Level Junior Cycle Irish exam with his students. As a Weekly Grinds student, you will also have access to the archive of class recordings back to September 9th, meaning you will never miss a class.

How these Junior Cert Irish Grinds will help you:

Séadhan will cover 4 different poems, 2 different short stories, 2 novels and 2 dramas to ensure that you have a wide variety of content to choose from for the exam in June
You will be given a new set of notes every five weeks which will include poetry, stories, letters, prose and of course previous exam questions
Séadhan will use his experience and in-depth knowledge of the course to ensure that you are very comfortable with the exam layout and the content needed to succeed

Meet your Irish Teachers

Séadhan De Poire

Séadhan specialises in providing his Irish students with a clear, fundamental understanding of Irish, and how the marking scheme is applied in state exams. His style of teaching is focused on covering the curriculum in a concise way, so all of his students have the tools to successfully manage the likely exam questions.

Séadhan has proven himself to be a very popular teacher due to his ability to stimulate students’ interest in the subject. He has worked with the State Examinations Commission correcting written exam papers and as an Oral Examiner for the Leaving Certificate. He has also taught in the Gaeltacht in Coláiste Ciarán and Coláise Ó Direáin. Séadhan has authored two Junior Certificate Irish textbooks.


Ros Cleere

Ros Cleere is an English and Irish teacher. He holds a degree in both his subjects and a Professional Masters in Education.

With a deep-rooted passion for fostering linguistic excellence, Ros employs personalised teaching methodologies to empower students in grasping language concepts effectively. Ros has worked with the state examinations commission correcting exam papers and has experience as an Oral Examiner for the Leaving Certificate, he possesses extensive knowledge of assessment methodologies and curriculum development, ensuring students achieve their full potential in their exams.

Over the course of the academic year, Séadhan will cover all aspects of the Higher Level Junior Cycle Irish exam with you.


Séadhan will focus on the verbs and sentence structure at the start of the year in the weekly grinds to ensure that you have the correct foundation to go on and achieve your best possible result.


You will become very familiar with the more difficult big mark sections on the exam such as the novel, the reading comprehension & the opinion piece.


Towards the end of the year Séadhan will discuss exam strategies, time management and helpful tips and exam shortcuts that you have confidence going into the Junior Cycle Irish exam.

Where can you attend these grinds?

Our live, interactive weekly grinds are available in two formats, both designed to offer you full engagement and access to top-quality instruction

 

On-site: Join us in person at our Stillorgan location for classroom-based weekly grinds.

 

Online via Live-stream: Attend our weekly grinds online, from anywhere in Ireland, with fully interactive live-streamed classes.

 

Whichever option you choose, you’ll be able to ask questions and interact with our teachers throughout each 75-minute session. All classes come with our renowned Dublin Academy study notes. If you attend via live-stream, we’ll post the notes to your home at no extra charge. As a Weekly Grinds student, you will also have access to the archive of class recordings, meaning you will never miss a class.

 

Our Leaving Cert weekly grinds focus on what's essential for the exams. Our teachers cut through the unnecessary material to concentrate solely on the core content, helping you maximize your exam performance.

What is the schedule for weekly grinds?

Start Date:
Classes commence week beginning Monday 9th September 2024.

 

Please note, classes will NOT be held on the following dates:

 

Mid-Term Breaks:
Monday 28th October- classes resume Monday 4th November 2024
Monday 17th February – classes resume Monday 24th February 2025

Christmas Holidays:
Monday 9th December 2024 – classes resume on Monday 6th January 2025

Easter Holidays:
Monday 14th April - Sunday 27th April

Final Classes:
Saturday 24th May 2025


Please note weekly grinds take place as normal on bank holidays

Can students ask questions in weekly grinds?

Yes. Regardless of whether students are attending weekly grinds on-site or via live-stream they will be free to ask our teachers questions.

How long are the weekly grinds?

Leaving Cert weekly grinds are 75 minutes in duration. Junior Cert weekly grinds are 60 minutes in duration.

Can I get recordings of the weekly grinds?

As a Weekly Grinds student, you will have full access to the archive of class recordings back to September 9th, meaning you will never miss a class.

Can I change my choice of subject for my weekly grind during the year?

Yes, however, please note that an administration charge of €25 will apply if a student decides to change their choice of subject during the year.

How do I access my live-streamed weekly grinds and recordings?

You will access your live-streamed weekly grinds and recrodings via our online learning management system, DASH (Dublin Academy School Hub). We will send you logins for this platform in advance of your grind.

If I opt for live-streamed grinds, how do I get my study notes?

Your study notes will be posted to your house free of charge in advance of your live-streamed grinds commencing. Please note, study notes will take up to 3 working days to arrive from the time of booking.

Can I try out the weekly grinds for free before signing up?

Yes, all students can attend a free trial of our weekly grinds to ensure they are happy with the service.

Do Weekly Grinds take place on bank holiday Mondays?

Yes, weekly grinds take place as scheduled on bank holidays and public holidays throughout the year.
