Meet Your Accounting Teachers

Don Tierney

Don Tierney has 20 years of experience in teaching Accounting. Prior to that, he spent two years working as an Accountant. He has a wide range of teaching experience in the subject. Confidence is instilled in his students as the students receive constant guidance and encouragement on how to earn top marks in their exams. He shares with the student’s exam techniques and equally as important, the most frequent and highly avoidable mistakes and over the years a high percentage of his students go on to study Accounting at Third level.


Annmarie Sheahan

Annmarie Sheahan graduated from Mary Immaculate College in Limerick with a degree in Education, Accounting, and Business. With over five years of teaching experience, Annmarie has developed a dynamic and student-centered approach to education, which she honed while working in a previous grind school. Her teaching style incorporates key methodologies such as scaffolding, engaging students in active learning, fostering strong communication skills, and emphasizing the importance of assessment and critical thinking.
 
Annmarie believes that education should empower students, equipping them with the tools they need to succeed academically. She is dedicated to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment where every student can thrive. Encouraging students to take ownership of their learning journey, Annmarie helps them build confidence through her previous experience as an examiner with the SEC. 
 
Through her commitment to continuous improvement and her passion for teaching, Annmarie aims to inspire her students to become lifelong learners. She understands the importance of adapting her teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of her students, ensuring that each one is challenged and supported in their educational pursuits. What Our Accounting Grinds Cover

Over the course of these Leaving Cert Accounting grinds, you will cover all topics of the Leaving Cert course.

 

Initially, the focus will be on Final Accounts, a question that comes up every year and is worth 30%. The concepts and strategies of Final accounts will assist your understanding of the following topics; Incomplete records, Tabular Statements, Published accounts, Club accounts and Service firm accounts.

 

Interpretation of Accounts is a question that has come up every single year and is worth 25%. This topic will be covered in great detail early on in the year. The teacher with 20 years experience will focus on strategies for you to obtain the maximum amount of marks in the Leaving Cert Accounting exam.

 

There will be a big focus on time management and highlighting common mistakes made by students. In each Topic covered, you will receive exam-focused notes outlining methods to aid understanding and help improve time management.  These notes will also include numerous past exam questions and solutions. Revision on topics likely to appear on the exam according to past trends will cover the majority of the second half of the year. This will ensure that you feel well prepared for their Leaving Cert Accounting exam.

Can students ask questions in grinds?

Yes. Regardless of whether students are attending grinds in person or online via live-stream they will be free to ask our teachers questions.

How long are the grinds?

Leaving Cert weekly grinds are 75 minutes in duration. Junior Cert grinds are 60 minutes in duration.

Can I get recordings of the grinds?

As a Grinds student, you will have full access to the archive of class recordings, meaning you will never miss a class.

Can I change my choice of subject for my grind during the year?

Yes, however, please note that an administration charge of €25 will apply if a student decides to change their choice of subject during the year.

How do I access my live-streamed grinds and recordings?

You will access your live-streamed grinds and recrodings via our online learning management system, DASH (Dublin Academy School Hub). We will send you login details for this platform in advance of your grind.

If I opt for live-streamed grinds, how do I get my study notes?

Your study notes will be posted to your house free of charge in advance of your live-streamed grinds commencing. Please note, study notes will take up to 3 working days to arrive from the time of booking.

Can I try out the weekly grinds for free before signing up?

Yes, all students can attend a free trial of our weekly grinds to ensure they are happy with the service.
