Kay Lynch

Guidance Counsellor

Kay has a BA in Communication Studies (DCU), an a MSc in Guidance Counselling (first class honours, DCU), and over twenty years experience supporting teenagers and young adults as a guidance counsellor and performance coach.

With a background in communications, journalism and cross-over classical singing, Kay brings a wealth of real world experience to her passion for guidance counselling.

Her professional practice is underpinned by her belief in the importance of taking an holistic approach with each student. Kay strives to create a rapport with everyone she supports and wants her students to feel they can approach her and ask for help with anything that concerns them be that a personal or educational issue. Kay encourages students to engage in self-reflection and work towards self-knowledge, assisting them to come to understand their strengths, talents, aptitudes and passions so that they are equipped to make informed choices about Leaving Cert subjects, college courses and the best first step on their career journey.  Believing that detailed research is vital, Kay helps her students to take ownership of the research process, giving them the tools they need to make sound decisions.

Kay understands the importance of providing her students with accurate information and guidance regarding course content, scholarships, and college application processes in Ireland, the UK, Europe and  America and as such maintains membership of the Institute of Guidance Counsellors (IGC) and regularly engages in CPD to maintain cutting edge guidance knowledge and to stay informed about current developments in the educational sector and the future of the world of work.

Listen to Kay's RTE DriveTime Interview with Sarah McInerney:

Kay Lynch, Guidance Counsellor at The Dublin Academy of Education, is a trusted voice on student wellbeing, exam preparation, and life after the Leaving Certificate. She is regularly invited onto national radio and press forums to share her expert insights on key milestones such as CAO offers, exam stress, and career pathways.

Most recently, Kay appeared on RTÉ Drivetime with Sarah McInerney following the announcement of first-round CAO offers. She reassured students who missed out on their first-choice course that this is not the end of the road—highlighting options such as the CAO “Available Places” system, PLC courses, apprenticeships, and deferred entry.

Kay’s guidance focuses not only on immediate solutions but also on the bigger picture: reducing the pressure students feel during the points race and reminding them that success can come through multiple pathways. Her calm, practical advice continues to help students and families navigate one of the most important transitions in their educational journey.
