Who are these Online Summer Bootcamps for?
These bootcamps are designed for students who are entering either 5th Year or 6th Year in the 2020/21 academic year. They will equip students with the right mindset and arm them with the tools to hit the ground running in September 2020.

What is the format of these courses?
Each course takes place over one week and is fully online. Students will receive 15 hours of pre-recorded video tutorials per course delivered by our incredible teachers. Students will be sent 3 hours of video content per day, for 5 days. On the last day of each course, students will be invited to a live online session with the teacher to facilitate any questions that they have.

When are these courses?
Courses start commencing on 29th June and run until late August. For more details on exact dates see the timetable tab.

Will there be study notes?
Yes. All students will receive hard copies of our notes which will be safely posted to their homes free of charge.

What will be covered in this bootcamp?

 

 

Biology is widely considered one of the longest courses on the leaving cert curriculum and is also an exam in which frequently students feel they underperform. The Dublin Academy of Education’s comprehensive five-day online Biology course is designed to provide students with a fundamental base in the subject (45% of their grade) while also coaching them on how to apply this knowledge towards exam questions using the DAE technique. This course is delivered by our head Biology teacher David Lewis.

  • The Cell/Photosynthesis
  • Respiration/Enzymes
  • Bacteria/Fungi/Viruses/Protista

About the teacher – David Lewis: David’s ability to relate to students has resulted in him becoming a popular teacher at The Academy. With more than 7 years experience teaching at the highest level, he is fascinated with innovating new ways of creating effective, personalised exam strategies that are extraordinarily useful and proven to achieve results. David is a member of the Irish Mathematics Teachers’ Association and is specialised in providing students with a clear, fundamental understanding of the syllabus. As an examination corrector in Biology and Maths, David is adept at understanding the mistakes for which students frequently lose marks. David has also authored a Junior Certificate Science textbook in 2020 “Less Stress more success”

The Dublin Academy of Education’s five-day comprehensive English course is customised for 6th Year higher level English students, this will put students on the front foot on their return to school.

Students will cover the following topics:

  • Essay Question
  • Shakespearean drama – King Lear
  • Poetry
  • Comparative
  • Time management in the exam

What will be covered in this bootcamp?

 

 

The Dublin Academy of Education’s five day comprehensive online French course is customised to introduce students to higher-level French at senior cycle, this will put students on the front foot on their return to school. This course is for 5th & 6th Year students (Leaving Cert 2021/2022).

Students can immerse themselves in the language in the comfort of their home and receive exam-focused guidance from our skilled teachers who know how to make the marking scheme work for students.

All major aspects of the Leaving Cert examination paper will be covered, including;

  • Oral Work
  • Reading Comprehension
  • Written Production (Opinion Pieces, Letters, Emails & Diary Entries)

Each day, the three hours of lessons will be broken into sections as follows:

Hour 1 – Grammar 

  • Topics covered include  grammar moods, the subjunctive, past. present and future tenses
Hour 2 – Oral Exam Prep
  • Topics covered include a breakdown of the marking scheme, family, school, and the life of a young person
Hour 3 – Written Paper Prep
  • Topics covered include the opinion piece, the diary entry and the letter/email

About the teacher – Katie Lenehan:  Katie Lenehan holds a degree in French and Spanish, and a Professional Masters in Education. Her training as a teacher was based on the most up to date education models and methodologies and is designed to ensure all students are catered for and can reach their goals in the most efficient way possible. Her knowledge of languages and linguistics, as well as teaching in some of the most prestigious schools in Dublin, will ensure that students obtain the best possible grades in their exams.

What will be covered in this bootcamp?

This Irish course has been designed by our State Examiner Séadhan De Poire so that students will feel that they have been to the Gaeltacht without leaving the comfort of their home. This course will help students improve both oral fluency and pronunciation. The subject will be turned into a living language and students will gain more confidence in their own ability to converse in Irish.

By the end of the course, each student will have detailed individual notes for the Irish oral from a State Examiner. The oral is worth 40 % of the overall result in Irish.

The course will also prepare students for the Aiste [which is worth 17%] by showing them the techniques required to formulate, structure and compose essay on topical and current affairs.

Course Content

Paper 1 :

(1) Aiste,  (2) Alt, (3) Díospóireacht

Paper 2 :

  • Comprehension -> Answering skills, techniques to improve time management, vocabulary and sample answers.
  • Poetry -> Answering skills, vocabulary, exam questions and sample answers.

Gramadach :

  • All aspect of grammar will be covered in great detail.

Aural comprehension:

  • Vocabulary
  • Past exam questions and sample answers.
  • Teaching and understanding of the marking schemes
  • Exercises to improve fluency.

Oral :

  • The student will leave the course feeling refreshed and confident in the subject knowing that all the notes needed for the Irish oral (40%) will have been taught, explained and mastered.

His teaching style is focused on covering the curriculum in a concise way so that students have the tools to successfully manage the likely exam questions. Séadhan is a popular teacher due to his ability to stimulate students’ interest in the subject. Séadhan has worked with the state examinations commission correcting exam papers and last year was an Oral examiner for the leaving certificate. He has also taught in the Gaeltacht in Coláiste Ciarán and Coláise Ó Direáin.

What will be covered in this Bootcamp?

The Dublin Academy of Education’s comprehensive five-day Online Maths Summer Bootcamp is customised to prepare students for higher-level Maths at senior cycle. This course for 5th & 6th Year students (Leaving Cert 2021/2022) is delivered by David Lewis and covers the key topics and techniques necessary to tackle both papers on the Leaving Cert higher level maths course. David’s maths teaching style unmasks maths as a subject and empowers students crucially giving them the confidence needed to answer exam questions. Maths is the only subject on the leaving cert curriculum in which students can receive 25 bonus points for taking the higher level exam.

What do I get if I sign up for the Online Summer Bootcamps?

Do I need the notes to get value from the Online Summer Bootcamps? 
Yes, absolutely. Students who attempt to watch the Online Summer Bootcamps without the notes will not get value from these courses as our teachers constantly refer to the notes constantly throughout the video lessons. As such, we advise all students to follow the online video lessons with the notes in front of them. 

How and when do I get my notes?
Please allow 3 working days to receive your study notes. There may be a scenario where you are granted access to our Online Summer Bootcamps prior to the notes arriving but we advise students to wait until they have the notes before commencing watching the online video lessons. 

Can notes be delivered to anywhere in the country? 
Yes! We currently have bookings from every single county in the country. No matter where you are, you will be able to attend our Online Summer Bootcamps.

When will the 1-hour online workshop take place? 
The 1-hour online workshops will take place shortly after the completion of the five-day course, exact dates for each course will be available in the ‘Subjects’ tab in the coming days.

How will I view the Online Summer Bootcamps? 
Our Online Summer Bootcamps will be hosted on our Moodle Platform. Prior to your bootcamp commencement date, we will email you with your login details and passwords for this platform. 

How long will I have access to the Online Summer Bootcamps? 
Our Online Summer Bootcamps will be available on our Moodle Platform for three weeks from the start date of the course.

Can you only view the videos once? 
No, you can pause, rewind and rewatch all of the videos. 

Can I be logged on to the Online Summer Bootcamps on more than one device at a time? 
No, you will only be able to log on to the Summer Courses on one device at a time. If you try to log in on a second device, you will be automatically be logged out on the first device. 

Will there be timetable clashes?
With our Online Summer Bootcamps, there will be no timetable clashes at all, allowing unrestricted course choice and giving students the freedom to work through each course at their own pace and at a time that suits them. 

Can you do these courses if you don’t live in Dublin? 
Yes, you can watch the classes from the comfort and safety of your own home as they are online. You will also have hard copies of the notes so you don’t have to worry about printing them. 

Do you receive video lessons bit by bit over the 5 days or all at once? 
Students will be sent 3 hours of video content per day, for 5 days. On the last day of each course, students will be invited to a live online session with the teacher to facilitate any questions that they have.
