6th Year Online Grinds

6th Year Online Grinds
Info

Our Online Grinds programmes offer students the opportunity to be taught by our incredible teachers every single week from the comfort of their own homes. We have designed these online programmes based on extensive student feedback regarding how to best deliver online tuition.

IMPORTANT: Even though our Online Grinds Programmes commenced on 7th September, students signing up after this date will be granted full access to all Online Grinds video lessons.

These programmes run for 29x academic weeks and contain a blend of pre-recorded and live lessons. Each week, students will receive a new 75-minute pre-recorded video lesson. These pre-recorded video lessons are very beneficial for students as they can pause, rewind and rewatch any of the content they’re not sure of. Another benefit to the pre-recorded lessons are that students can watch (and rewatch) them at their convenience rather than being constrained to a timetable. Students will also have access to a full archive of all delivered video lessons which they can rewatch right up until the State Examinations. The pre-recorded video lessons are then supported by additional live online Q & A tutorial sessions with our teachers which facilitate all student queries ensuring they are following the material.

Students will also have the benefit of attending a live 5-hour workshop with our teachers here at our school in Dublin in May 2021. These workshops will be highly interactive and act as a revision of the key examinable topics that are likely to appear in the State Examinations.

All online lessons are supported by our study notes which are posted directly to students’ homes free of charge. Our study notes form an integral part of our Online Grinds programmes as our teachers refer to them constantly in all videos and live tutorials.

Summary of what students attending our Online Grinds programmes will receive:

  • A total of 29x video lessons which are delivered weekly to students via our moodle platform (each weekly video is 75-minutes in duration). These videos can be rewatched right up until the State Exams.
  • In addition to the 29x videos, students will have access to regular live online Q & A tutorial sessions with our teachers
  • Access to a 5-hour live workshop with our teachers in May 2021
  • Hundreds of pages of our study notes which will be delivered in hard copy format to students’ homes free of charge

What will be covered in this Applied Maths Online Grind programme?

The Leaving Cert Applied Maths paper is made up of 10 questions:

  • Uniform accelerated motion
  • Relative velocity
  • Projectiles
  • Newton’s Laws
  • Collisions
  • Circular motion and simple harmonic motion
  • Statics
  • Moments of inertia
  • Hydrostatics
  • Differential equations

Kieran will teach 8 topics in this order in these Applied Maths Online grinds: Uniform accelerated motion, Relative velocity, Projectiles, Newton’s Laws, Collisions, Differential equations, Moments of inertia and Hydrostatics

Applied Maths is a difficult subject requiring students to have a good standard of Maths. Less than 2000 students sit this exam annually. Students who study this subject have an advantage when studying Science and Engineering in college. Leaving Cert Applied Maths involves solving problems that can be quite complex.

Kieran will take you through the techniques to attack complex problems in the simplest way possible. He teaches you to get to the heart of a problem using the most efficient and effective methods. This is critically important as students have only two and a half hours to complete the Leaving Cert Applied Maths paper.

What will be covered in this Biology Online Grinds programme?

Over the coming academic year in these online weekly grinds, we will cover the Leaving Cert Biology course in great depth. As many students view the Leaving Cert Biology course as very long and challenging, our notes help students manage the information much better and make revising and conquering the course more achievable.  We will show students how to achieve a H1 standard through interpreting exam questions correctly and by identifying the keywords. We will demonstrate the importance of understanding how marking schemes can work to the benefit of the student.

All of this will be achieved by students receiving exam-focused Biology notes which will contain all past exam questions and solutions at the end of each topic. Students will also get a booklet containing all experiment notes worth at least 15% and a booklet containing all definitions worth at least 20% of the Biology exam paper. These notes always help students gain confidence as they condense the syllabus by focusing on material that is essential to achieve that high grade.

What will be covered in this Business Online Grind programme?

Over the course of the academic year, Carl will cover all Leaving Cert Business units in thorough detail in the weekly grinds. He will focus on the questions more commonly seen in the Leaving Cert Business exam along with the questions that can prove to be difficult for students. As time management can be a big challenge in the state examinations, Carl will demonstrate how to cover questions to an H1 standard by using keywords outlined in the marking scheme and also by dissecting questions so students can write exactly what Leaving Cert examiners want to see in the allocated amount of time.

In each weekly grind, students will get exam-focused notes covering all units on the Leaving Cert syllabus. Two of the weekly Business grinds in the year will be set aside for the ABQ which is a compulsory question worth 20%. Within these Leaving Cert Business grinds, students will complete a similar ABQ question that will be graded. This will ensure each student has the confidence to tackle the ABQ question.

What will be covered in this Economics Online Grinds programme?

Over the course of the academic year, Rob will cover all aspects of the Leaving Cert Economics course in his online grinds. He focuses on the questions more commonly seen in the Leaving Cert along with the more challenging questions that can prove to be difficult for students. Each student is given a microeconomics book and a macroeconomics book. These books will break down the Leaving Cert Economics marking scheme and they will include up to date information on current economic trends. There is no extra charge for these books.

As time management can be a big challenge in Economics, Rob will demonstrate how to cover questions to an H1 standard by using keywords outlined in the marking scheme. This enables students to write exactly what examiners are looking for within the allocated time.

A booklet is also given to each student covering the short questions from the previous ten years. As a lot of these questions reappear these questions are covered in great detail in class.

Physics keyboard_arrow_down

What will be covered in this Physics Online Grinds programme?

The topics on the Leaving Cert Physics course are as follows:

  • Light and Sound
  • Electricity
  • Heat
  • Mechanics
  • Modern Physics
  • Particle Physics (Options 1)

You do not have a high standard of Maths to succeed in Leaving Cert Physics. You need to be competent at manipulating formulae and using your calculator. As the course is quite long, students need to be very well prepared. Students need to know definitions, demonstration of experiments, proofs and real-life Physics applications. Kieran’s notes organise the physics course so all students need to do is carry out the work as set out in the notes.

Recently exam papers have tended to have questions with mixed topics meaning omitting parts of the course is risky. For example, last year’s paper included a question on nuclear physics where students had to carry out a heat calculation. With this in mind, it is essential that students try to cover most of the course. Leaving out major topics like Electricity is not an option.

Section A is an experimental section. Kieran provided students with a workbook allowing students to carry out a write-up of all the experiments.

All leaving cert questions relevant to a topic appear at the end of each set of notes. Full solutions to all questions in the notes are provided.

Kieran puts special emphasis on Modern Physics (electron and nucleus) and the Particle Physics option. There can be a great return in studying these topics as they often yield 50% of the Section B questions.

If I sign up to the Online Grinds programme will I be able to rewatch the videos lessons at a later date?

Yes, access to all your weekly 75-minute videos lessons will be available right up until the State Examinations.

Is there a cut-off point to signing up for the Online Grinds programme?

No, although our Online Grinds programme commences on Monday 7th September, students can still sign up after this date. Our Online Grinds programmes are designed to be attended over 29x weeks so we advise students to sign up sooner rather than later as they’ll be able to manage the workload better.

Yes, of course. Our Online Grinds programmes are a blend of pre-recorded and live content. Students can ask our teachers as many questions as they want during our regular live Q & A tutorial sessions and also at the live 5-hour workshop.

How and when do I get my notes?

Please allow at least 3 working days to receive your notes. There may be a scenario where you are granted access to our Online Grinds programme prior to the study notes arriving but we advise students to wait until they have the notes before commencing watching the video lessons.

How will I view the Online Grinds programme?

Our Online Grinds programme will be hosted on our Moodle Platform. Prior to your online course commencement date, we will email you with your login details and passwords for this platform.

Do I need the study notes to get value from the videos lessons?

Yes, absolutely. Students who attempt to watch the videos lessons without the study notes will not get value from these video lessons as our teachers constantly refer to the notes constantly throughout. As such, we advise all students to follow the video lessons with the notes in front of them.

What happens if I share my logins to Moodle with another student who is not enrolled in the Online Grinds programme?

Our Online Grinds programmes are strictly only available to students who are enrolled with us. The Online Grinds programme is designed as a full support package containing pre-recorded videos, live tutorials, hard copies of our study notes and our live 5-hour workshop. Only students who are enrolled with us will experience the full benefits this programme has to offer.
