The Dublin Academy of Education is running Christmas Revision Courses from 28th December – 1st January in both Stillorgan and Online. Students are able to mix-and-match and book any combination of classroom-based and pre-recorded Online Christmas Revision Courses.
Students who attend these courses will receive:
- On average, 250 pages of our H1 study notes per subject.
- Over six hours of expert tuition with some of Ireland’s most dedicated and passionate teachers per subject.
- Past and probable exam questions that are likely to appear in this year’s State Examinations.
Students can book any combination of our Christmas Revision Courses:
- Classroom-based courses take place at The Dublin Academy of Education, Stillorgan Plaza, Lower Kilmacud Road, Dublin. Due to social distancing requirements, we have reduced class sizes so early booking is advised as the courses are expected to sell out quickly.
- Online courses take place through our online learning platform Moodle. Online students will receive their notes delivered to their home address free of charge. Our pre-recorded videos for Online Christmas Revision Courses will be available for one month, this gives students the chance to pause, rewind and rewatch the content.
Note: These courses will book out, so early booking is crucial.
Topics covered will include; Food, The Circulatory System, Ecology, Respiration, and Plant Structure and Transport. Past Leaving Cert. questions and solutions will be provided for all topics. Strategies to maximise grades will be provided, with particular emphasis on the marking scheme.
David Lewis has been teaching at the academy for 6 years. He prides himself on his ability to take the extremely long biology course and distill it into his manageable exam focused material. Topics covered will include; The Periodic Table, Atomic Structure, Chemical Bonding, Volumetric Analysis and The Gas Laws. The topics are specifically chosen to ensure that students have a good understanding of the fundamentals of Chemistry. Past Leaving Cert. questions and solutions will be provided for all topics. Meet your teacher – Nichola Walsh: Nichola has a first-class honours degree in chemistry and Ph.D. from U.C.D. and she completed her Postgraduate Certificate in Education at the University of Oxford. She is an experienced teacher who has taught G.C.S.E, A-level, and Leaving Certificate chemistry and was an undergraduate chemistry tutor and lab demonstrator in U.C.D. She is a passionate teacher who loves teaching science and this comes across in her classes. Nichola is also an examiner for higher-level Leaving Cert Chemistry, which has given her an invaluable insight into grading the chemistry paper. She regularly incorporates this knowledge into her classes to ensure students maximise their marks.

Meet your teacher – JP Sweetman: JP Sweetman has 15 years experience teaching English at the highest level. He also works as an Examiner for the State Exams Commission (SEC) specialising in Leaving Certificate English. His continued work with the SEC means he can provide the most relevant notes and guidance to students on current exam trends, exam management, tips and preparation. JP has written and published work with The Educational Company of Ireland. His passion for Leaving Cert English is evident through classes that are enjoyable and rewarding.

An integration of language-learning skills based on the acquisition of language, such as phonics, provides all students with a strong foundation ensuring that they achieve the best possible grades in exams.

About the teacher: Séadhan Perry is specialised in providing students with a clear, fundamental understanding of the syllabus and marking scheme. His teaching style is focused on covering the curriculum in a concise way, so that students have the tools to successfully manage the likely exam questions. Séadhan is a popular teacher due to his ability to stimulate students’ interest in the subject. He has worked with the state examinations commission correcting exam papers and last year was an Oral examiner for the leaving certificate. He has also taught in the Gaeltacht in Coláiste Ciarán and Coláise Ó Direáin.

Meet your teacher – Sarah Mulligan: Sarah Mulligan holds an Honour’s Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and a Professional Diploma in Education. Sarah specialises in setting high targets for students to achieve their academic potential. She prides herself on building a rapport with students using innovative methods tailored to students needs and capabilities. In 2017 the Irish Mathematics Teachers Association presented Sarah with an award in recognition of her achievements when one of her students placed first in the Higher Level Maths Leaving Certificate Examination.

What is the difference between the classroom-based and online Christmas Revision Courses?chevron_right
Students attending our classroom-based Christmas Revision Courses will attend classes over five days at our school in Stillorgan. Students attending our online Christmas Revision Courses will be able to watch pre-recorded versions of the same courses via our Online Learning Management system, where the courses will be available to re-watch for up to one month.
Can I sign up to both classroom-based and online Christmas Revision Courses?chevron_right
Yes, students can book any combination of our classroom-based and online Christmas Revision Courses. i.e. they can chose to attend some courses here at the school and others online.
What happens if schools are forced to close again, will my classroom-based Christmas Revision Courses take place?chevron_right
Should schools be closed during our Christmas Revision Courses, students will be provided with the online version of their Christmas Revision Courses in place of their classroom-based courses. This is to ensure that no matter what happens, students will receive tuition.
What is the format of the classroom-based Christmas Revision Courses?chevron_right
Students attending classroom-based Christmas Revision Courses will attend a 75-minute class each day for five days (6.25 hours in total). They will also receive an average of 300+ pages of our H1 study notes per course.
What is the format of the online Christmas Revision Courses?chevron_right
Students attending online Christmas Revision Courses will receive 6.25 hours of tuition via pre-recorded videos which can be watched and re-watched for up to a month. They will also receive an average of 300+ pages of our H1 study notes per course posted free-of-charge directly to their home.
Do I need the notes to get value from the online Christmas Revision Courses?chevron_right
Yes, absolutely. Students who attempt to watch the online Christmas Revision Courses without the notes will not get value from these courses as our teachers constantly refer to the notes constantly throughout the video lessons. As such, we advise all students to follow classes with the notes in front of them.
If I take the online Christmas Revision Courses, how and when do I get my notes?chevron_right
Please allow 3 working days to receive your notes. There may be a scenario where you are granted access to our online Christmas Revision Courses prior to the notes arriving but we advise students to wait until they have the notes before commencing watching the online video lessons.
What health and safety procedures have been put in place for classroom-based courses?chevron_right
It is mandatory that all students wear face coverings when attending our school. Hand sanitising stations will be available throughout the buildings and students will be required to use them before and after classes. We have upgraded and improved the ventilation system in our classrooms. A strict roll call will be taken for all grinds classes for contact tracing purposes. A two-way “keep to the left” system will be in operation throughout the school. Students are asked to arrive for classes no earlier than 15 mins to help reduce numbers onsite. Class capacities have been reduced to ensure social distancing requirements can be met.

Yes, no matter where you are, you will be able to attend our Christmas Revision Courses and we will post the notes to you.
How will I view the Online Christmas Revision Courses?chevron_right
Our Online Christmas Revision Courses will be hosted on our Moodle Platform. Prior to your online course commencement date, we will email you with your login details and passwords for this platform.
Can you only view the videos once? How long will I have access to the online courses?chevron_right
No, you can pause, rewind and rewatch all of the videos. You will have access for one month.
Can I be logged on to the Online Christmas Revision Courses on more than one device at a time?chevron_right
No, you will only be able to log on to the Christmas Revision Courses on one device at a time. If you try to log in on a second device, you will be automatically be logged out on the first device.
Will there be timetable clashes?chevron_right
As we have both classroom-based and online offerings for the majority of courses, students will be able to avoid timetable clashes.
Can you do these courses if you don’t live in Dublin?chevron_right
Yes, by attending our online Christmas Revision Courses, you can attend from the comfort and safety of your own home. You will also have hard copies of the notes posted to you so you don’t have to worry about printing them out.
Do you receive video lessons bit by bit over the 5 days or all at once?chevron_right
You receive all course videos as soon as you log in to our Moodle Platform. This means students can navigate the content at a pace that suits them.
