The Dublin Academy of Education is running Christmas Revision Courses from 28th December – 1st January in both Stillorgan and Online. Students are able to mix-and-match and book any combination of classroom-based and pre-recorded Online Christmas Revision Courses.

Students who attend these courses will receive:

  • On average, 250 pages of our H1 study notes per subject.
  • Over six hours of expert tuition with some of Ireland’s most dedicated and passionate teachers per subject.
  • Past and probable exam questions that are likely to appear in this year’s State Examinations.

Students can book any combination of our Christmas Revision Courses:

  • Classroom-based courses take place at The Dublin Academy of Education, Stillorgan Plaza, Lower Kilmacud Road, Dublin. Due to social distancing requirements, we have reduced class sizes so early booking is advised as the courses are expected to sell out quickly.
  • Online courses take place through our online learning platform Moodle. Online students will receive their notes delivered to their home address free of charge. Our pre-recorded videos for Online Christmas Revision Courses will be available for one month, this gives students the chance to pause, rewind and rewatch the content.

Note: These courses will book out, so early booking is crucial.

This course will give students the tools necessary to excel in the upcoming exam. Students will have an insight into the questions that will most likely appear. The course will be exam-focused. Students will also receive the “Holy Grail” set of notes, which will help them understand the examiners’ marking scheme.

Meet your teacher – Rob Quinlan: With a master’s degree in economics along with correcting the Leaving Cert at state level for the past 6 years, Rob instils passion, interest and competence in students to obtain results of which they are capable. A methodical approach in making the subject relevant to students by understanding the economic climate around them is merged with the tools to navigate through all possible questions as proficiently as possible in exams. Rob has also 5 years’ experience as an Irish oral examiner as well as teaching and tutoring in UCD and Irish summer courses.

This course is built on the fact that almost half of all the questions students will be answering on is material that they have never seen before. Students will receive fully worked notes and past paper examples of the most popular questions. All notes place a heavy emphasis on the value of understanding the marking scheme, and on using that knowledge to write a well-structured answer for the examiner.

Meet your teacher – JP Sweetman: JP Sweetman has 15 years experience teaching English at the highest level. He also works as an Examiner for the State Exams Commission (SEC) specialising in Leaving Certificate English. His continued work with the SEC means he can provide the most relevant notes and guidance to students on current exam trends, exam management, tips and preparation. JP has written and published work with The Educational Company of Ireland. His passion for English is evident through classes that are enjoyable and rewarding.

This course will ensure students get the most marks possible in a tricky, no choice exam where all questions must be answered. Students will study topics from all three sciences over the five days receiving The Academy comprehensive revision pack (a set of nine handouts of need to know material which condenses the wide course into a manageable amount). All notes are complete with every past paper question, a necessity before tackling this exam.

Meet your teacher – Anita Leen: Anita Leen is a Biology & Physics teacher, graduated from the University of Limerick with an Honours degree. She has taught in some of the most prestigious schools in Dublin. She is a member of the Irish Science Teachers Association. She has a passion for both biology and physics and has extensive knowledge of exam content, this helps students to reach their full potential in their Leaving Cert exams.

Meet your teacher – Nichola Walsh: Nichola has a first class honours degree in chemistry and Ph.D. from U.C.D. and she completed her Postgraduate Certificate in Education at the University of Oxford.  She is an experienced teacher who has taught G.C.S.E, A-level, and Leaving Certificate chemistry and was an undergraduate chemistry tutor and lab demonstrator in U.C.D.  She is a passionate teacher who loves teaching science and this comes across in her classes.  Nichola is also an examiner for higher level chemistry, which has given her an invaluable insight into grading the chemistry paper.  She regularly incorporates this knowledge into her classes to ensure students maximise their marks.

What is the difference between the classroom-based and online Christmas Revision Courses?

Students attending our classroom-based Christmas Revision Courses will attend classes over five days at our school in Stillorgan. Students attending our online Christmas Revision Courses will be able to watch pre-recorded versions of the same courses via our Online Learning Management system, where the courses will be available to re-watch for up to one month.

Can I sign up to both classroom-based and online Christmas Revision Courses?

What happens if schools are forced to close again, will my classroom-based Christmas Revision Courses take place?

What is the format of the classroom-based Christmas Revision Courses?

Students attending classroom-based Christmas Revision Courses will attend a 75-minute class each day for five days (6.25 hours in total). They will also receive an average of 300+ pages of our H1 study notes per course.

What is the format of the online Christmas Revision Courses?

Students attending online Christmas Revision Courses will receive 6.25 hours of tuition via pre-recorded videos which can be watched and re-watched for up to a month. They will also receive an average of 300+ pages of our H1 study notes per course posted free-of-charge directly to their home.

Do I need the notes to get value from the online Christmas Revision Courses?

Yes, absolutely. Students who attempt to watch the online Christmas Revision Courses without the notes will not get value from these courses as our teachers constantly refer to the notes constantly throughout the video lessons. As such, we advise all students to follow classes with the notes in front of them.

If I take the online Christmas Revision Courses, how and when do I get my notes?

Please allow 3 working days to receive your notes. There may be a scenario where you are granted access to our online Christmas Revision Courses prior to the notes arriving but we advise students to wait until they have the notes before commencing watching the online video lessons.

What health and safety procedures have been put in place for classroom-based courses?

It is mandatory that all students wear face coverings when attending our school. Hand sanitising stations will be available throughout the buildings and students will be required to use them before and after classes. We have upgraded and improved the ventilation system in our classrooms. A strict roll call will be taken for all grinds classes for contact tracing purposes. A two-way “keep to the left” system will be in operation throughout the school. Students are asked to arrive for classes no earlier than 15 mins to help reduce numbers onsite. Class capacities have been reduced to ensure social distancing requirements can be met.

Can notes be delivered to anywhere in the country?

How will I view the Online Christmas Revision Courses?

Our Online Christmas Revision Courses will be hosted on our Moodle Platform. Prior to your online course commencement date, we will email you with your login details and passwords for this platform.

Can you only view the videos once? How long will I have access to the online courses?

No, you can pause, rewind and rewatch all of the videos. You will have access for one month.

Can I be logged on to the Online Christmas Revision Courses on more than one device at a time?

No, you will only be able to log on to the Christmas Revision Courses on one device at a time. If you try to log in on a second device, you will be automatically be logged out on the first device.

Will there be timetable clashes?

As we have both classroom-based and online offerings for the majority of courses, students will be able to avoid timetable clashes.

Can you do these courses if you don’t live in Dublin?

Yes, by attending our online Christmas Revision Courses, you can attend from the comfort and safety of your own home. You will also have hard copies of the notes posted to you so you don’t have to worry about printing them out.

Do you receive video lessons bit by bit over the 5 days or all at once?
