5th Year FREE Back to School Courses
We have designed Free Back to School Courses to help students in all years get back on track before returning to school in September.
Students can experience these live and interactive FREE Back to School Courses by attending either:
- On-site: We offer on-site classroom-based courses from our Stillorgan location.
- Online via Live-stream: We also offer students the option of attending these courses via live-stream meaning they can participate from anywhere in Ireland.
The aim of these Back to School Courses is to ensure that students are ready to hit the ground running in the new academic year.
Key information:
- Each Free Course is 1.25 hours in duration and students can register for two courses. This gives students up to 2.5 hours of free tuition with some of Ireland’s most passionate and dedicated teachers.
- Each Free Course covers a key area of the course providing valuable insights for students. For more information on specific course content see the ‘Subjects’ tab.
- All courses come with our renowned study notes which students can download free of charge.

Topic Covered in this Back to School Course: Club Accounts
Meet your Accounting teacher – Don Tierney: Don Tierney has 20 years of experience in teaching Accounting. Prior to that, he spent two years working as an Accountant. He has a wide range of teaching experience in the subject. Confidence is instilled in his students as the students receive constant guidance and encouragement on how to earn top marks in their exams. He shares with the student’s exam techniques and equally as important, the most frequent and highly avoidable mistakes and over the years a high percentage of his students go on to study Accounting at Third level.
Topic Covered in this Free 5th Year Applied Maths Online Course: Uniform Accelerated Motion
This course will solve problems from the first question on the Applied Maths paper involving the motion of particles. No previous knowledge of this subject is required. This seminar will give you a great indication as to whether this subject is suited to your talents.
Meet your Applied Maths Teacher – Kieran Mills: Kieran Mills has 25 years’ experience teaching Physics. He has co-written several books including Leaving Certificate Sample Papers. Kieran has been an expert contributor on Physics on RTÉ Radio.
Topics Covered in this Back to School Course: Cell structure & cell division
Emily will be going through a breakdown of the biology course and give students an insight into the biology leaving cert exam, giving students confidence in approaching new examination questions on new topics. She will go through cell division and cell structure, going into thorough detail on the content needed for exams. Emily will focus precisely on examinable points of these topics so students can leave the course having an effective and concise understanding of cell division and how it appears in the exam.

Topic Covered in this Free 5th Year English Online Course: Poetry – Emily Dickinson
Students will be given an overview of the poet’s work. They will also be introduced to the correct manner of poetry dissection and how to tackle past paper questions
Meet your English Teacher – Gavin Cowzer: Gavin Cowzer is regarded as a leading English teacher in this country. Having developed a passion for this subject, including obtaining a Master’s degree, Gavin’s teaching style is focused on covering the syllabus in a concise way, so that students have the tools to successfully manage the likely exam questions. His experience correcting exams gives his students an edge in a subject which is often assumed to be an art. However, it is clear that there is a strict science behind doing well in the Leaving Certificate English exam and Gavin’s students will be guided by this little-known fact. He has also been an expert contributor on Leaving Cert English for RTÉ Radio.

This course will include:

Topic Covered in this Free 5th Year Back to School Maths Course: Cubic equations & functions
The course will cover a number of topics from Paper 1, including quadratic and cubic equations, Factor theorem, and shapes of cubic curves. These tools will be used to solve some real-world problems typical of those encountered on the Leaving Cert Project Maths course.
Topic Covered in this Back to School Course: Quantity of heat
In this lesson, we will give students an insight into the layout of the physics course and the exam paper. Using the notes, we will guide students through the topic of heat incorporating theoretical and numerical content. Using a logical and step-by-step process numerical problems are broken down to enable students to calculate specific heat capacity and specific latent heat. The same method is applied throughout all numerical problems in physics allowing students to leave the course with one foot forward into mastering the physics paper.
Topic Covered in this Back to School Course: The opinion piece & the diary entry
This course will offer students the chance to gain more insight into two of the most important parts of the written exam – the opinion piece and the diary entry. Students will learn how these questions are marked, as well as go through sample answers and ways to optimize their own marks in their final exams.
