Celebrating Our Leaving Certs: A Day of Joy and Farewell

Leaving Cert Breakfast

Last Friday 17th, we joyously celebrated the Leaving Certs' last day with a series of heartfelt events and memorable moments. The festivities began with our annual Leaving Cert Breakfast, lovingly hosted by the 5th years. The tables were laden with a delectable array of pastries, fresh fruit, and a variety of juices. The tantalizing aroma of buttery croissants and warm muffins mingled with the vibrant colours of freshly sliced oranges and strawberries, creating an inviting and festive atmosphere. The students relished these delightful treats while exchanging their Leaving Cert cards, signing heartfelt messages and well-wishes to one another. Principal Ciaran then concluded the breakfast with a touching appreciation talk, highlighting the achievements and growth of our Leaving Certs over the years.

In addition to the breakfast, the day featured two remarkable fundraisers organized by our students. Ben Dicker showcased his barbering skills by offering haircuts to raise money for Pieta House, a charity dedicated to mental health support and suicide prevention. His initiative was met with great enthusiasm and generosity from the school community. Meanwhile, Joe Porter organized a Pajama Day in support of sarcoma cancer. Both events were incredibly successful, reflecting the compassion and dedication of our student body to making a positive impact.

The Graduation

The culmination of the day's celebrations was the Graduation ceremony held in the O'Reilly Hall at UCD. The hall buzzed with excitement and happiness as students, families, and staff gathered to honour the Leaving Certs. Vice Principal JP Sweetman, Year Head Robert Brown, and Principal Ciaran Hartigan delivered inspiring speeches, celebrating the achievements and resilience of the graduating class. Valedictorians Izzy Wystepak and Dan Leahy shared their reflections and hopes for the future, adding a personal and emotional touch to the ceremony.

The evening was further enriched by beautiful musical performances by the Leaving Cert students. Starting the night, Zheng Jn Wang and Linxi Gu captivated the audience with their enchanting piano duet of "The Scarlet Cape" by Ralph Federer, setting a graceful and elegant tone. This was followed by a touching performance of ABBA's "Slipping Through My Fingers," with Lily Burke's heartfelt singing complemented perfectly by Zheng Jun Wang on piano, evoking a sense of nostalgia and tenderness. The trio of Zheng Jun Wang on piano, Cathal McGrath on guitar, and Sophie Delaney on violin then uplifted spirits with their lively rendition of The Beatles' "Here Comes the Sun." Closing the night, Linxi Gu's stirring piano performance of Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" left the audience in awe, her skillful playing resonating through the hall and capping off the evening beautifully.

The combination of heartfelt speeches and captivating musical performances made the evening truly unforgettable. The atmosphere was filled with pride, joy, and a sense of accomplishment, as we bid farewell to our Leaving Certs and wished them all the best in their future endeavours.
